EARLY PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS
An early promotion opportunity will be provided at the beginning of the second semester each year.
Early promotions are limited to a small percentage of the cadets eligible as a recognition for their superior performance.
To determine the percentage of cadets eligible for the early promotion opportunity, the SASI and ASI’s will evaluate the number of cadets in both the current rank and the next available rank and then select a percentage that maintains the proper balance between ranks.
- For example, if there are 80 Cadet Airman in the corps and 45 Cadet Airman First Class, a promotion eligibility rate of 20% or 16 Cadet Airman would be considered reasonable.
To be considered for an early promotion, a cadet must take a promotion exam and pass with a minimum score of 70%.
A cadet will be eligible to take the promotion exam if they:
1. Passed all classes during the first semester.
2. Were not placed in DMC or suspended during the first semester.
3. Earned an 80% or higher GPA in AFJROTC during the first semester.
4. Have a promotion recommendation form signed off by each of their first semester teachers.
Once all eligible cadets have taken the promotion exam, selection for early promotion will be based on a total point system.
Each cadet will earn a number of points from multiple categories and will then be ranked from highest total point score to lowest.
Once ranked by point score, the top cadets will be selected to fill the promotion quota for each individual rank.
Point system:
Promotion Test - 250 max points
First Semester AFJROTC Class Average - 100 max points. Point total is equal to class average.
Community Service Hours - 1 hour community service equals 1 point
Ribbons Earned - 1 point for each ribbon earned
National Awards Received - 3 points for each nation award received
Attended Lobo Basic - 20 points (These points are only calculated during the first early promotion opportunity of a first year cadet. Cadets must have a Lobo Basic attendance rate of 90% or greater to be eligible for these points.)
Point Calculation Example: A cadet earns 198 points on the promotion exam, had a 94 semester average in JROTC the previous semester, has 14 recorded hours of JROTC community service, has earned 2 JROTC ribbons, and successfully completed Lobo Basic. This cadet has earned a total of 328 points.
198 points - Promotion Test
94 points - First Semester AFJROTC Class Average
14 points - Community Service Hours
2 points - Ribbons Earned
0 points - National Awards Received
20 points - Attended Lobo Basic (this is not the 1st promotion opportunity of a 1st Year cadet)
328 points - Total Points Earned
